Jeyikkira KuthiraAfter making an impression in successful flicks like Kaaka Kaaka, Thiruttu Payale and Naan Avan Illai, actor Jeevan is back with Jeyikkira Kuthira (JK). The film is his first with director Shakti Chidambaram and had a grand launch last week. CE caught up with the tall and charming actor to find out why he’s kicked about the film.

“It’s my first film with Shakti Chidambaram. Many times in the past he has narrated scripts to me. But for some reason or the other, things didn’t fall in place. One day, he suddenly called me again and narrated this story of JK. I instantly liked it and said okay,” says Jeevan. We tell him he seems to take time choosing his scripts and he explains, “I’m here only for cinema. It’s my bread and butter. But I don’t choose films in a hurry. My motto is that the script I choose should satisfy audiences and also be profitable for those who invest in the project. I listen to hundreds of scripts. But only when my gut feeling tells me its meets these criteria, I go for it.”
Unlike some of his past films, Jeevan is not playing a character with negative shades this time. “JK is a romcom and a full- fledged commercial entertainer. What grabbed my attention was the twists in screenplay and the fresh elements in the storyline,” he reveals. For those who swooned over his long, curly locks in the past, there’s good news. The actor is sporting his long-haired looked once again. “Shakti sir said it would suit the character perfectly,” he says.

We recall that in Naan Avan Illai, he had six heroines, while the sequel had five heroines. This time, the lucky hero has three heroines. Does he choose scripts with multiple heroines? “Not at all. It just happens to be a requirement. Maybe it’s just my luck or something,” he says with a laugh. His heroines are Dimple Chopade, Shravya and Ambika Soni; Jayaprakash and Saranya play his parents.

The shoot began last week in Chennai and soon the unit will be heading to Mumbai and later Puducherry. The actor is wholly enthusiastic with the way things are proceeding. “Shakti sir is full of energy on the sets. Srikanth Deva is composing the music and it’s my third film with him. He’s determined to compose some mind-blowing music. All this excitement is infectious,” he signs off.
