The cast and crew of Yaamirukka Bayamey, a comedy thriller directed by debutant Deekay, came in close contact with leopards while shooting for the film in Nainital. And the director says that the standing instruction they had received from the owner of the bungalow they had rented saved them from being attacked.
Deekay says, “Leopards are a common sight in Nainital, and the locals are used to their presence. But, when we stepped out for our night schedule, we were stunned to see the leopards roaming around freely. Thankfully, the landlord had instructed us to behave normally, stand still and not run away when we spot them. Apparently, leopards are like dogs, and don’t bother you until they feel threatened. So, we waited till they passed, acting all casual.”
The film, which stars Kreshna, Rupa Manjari, Oviya, Simhaa and Karunakaran, is about four eccentric people, who end up in a sticky situation. The suspense element, we hear, is a fifth character who enters their life. The director adds, “I actually wrote the script as a comedy entertainer. But then, I realized there’s scope for turning it into a thriller as well. There aren’t any supernatural elements or gore, but there’s enough spook to chill your bones.”
